Broadband still took ages
I have broadband and it still took ages to download.
Granted my 1Mb connection isn't the fastest around, but it was still only averaging a download speed of around 12kbps. At several points it even went down to 2kbps. I'm assuming that this was something to do with GW itself as all my other functions were downloading normally. I was not happy, but then it was worth the wait I suppose. |

my initial dl was about 250kBYTE/sec and never dropped below 200kBYTE/sec my dsl service uses this for testing your speed it free and fairly accurate give it a try if you are low enough you can legally complain for them not giving good service (your state laws may vary) http://www.dslreports.com/speedtests...com/1086203887 |

Yeah, dial-up does suck, I have it too. It's definitly possible to get the updates though. I downloaded all the updates since it first came out, SF, halloween event, new years event, and now the pvp event. It all downloaded at roughly 3kps.
The only thing that really annoys me with dial-up atm is when it decides to get lazy and stops working. Doesn't disconnect or anything... just sits there doing nothing... I should be upgrading to wireless soon (only highspeed option where I live). I keep hearing horror stories about it though *sigh* |

If you can afford to purchase guildwars...or Factions, you should be able to purchase -anything- other then dialup right? :P. Let's just say $50 a month for a highspeed connection, I live in Washington where minimum wage is
$7.63/hr (woot..go WA lol) 10hours a month will net you that..plus some snacks/drinks while you play :P. If you're under 16 and can't get a job...do oddjobs. Of course, if you get an allowance...it's even easier. But yea, picking up 10hours a month at a job is beyond easy, in return for a great game such as GW, well worth it ^^ |

I am very fortunate to be able to run GW on my laptop. I have Wireless access at numerous "Hot spots" where I DL any large updates. Then mostly I play at home where the ONLY option is dial up. I dont consider $100 a month an option for satelite internet, which I have heard doesnt necessarily work with online games.
I enjoy GW's performance on dial up ESPECIALLY after I disabled call waiting, I dont get the long "sit there do nothing" lags that some others have posted, I used to get those and I think its because of call waiting. I am able to go through intense battles, and do the droks run and other critical tasks, where mistakes can end you, and poor performance over the wire would make it impossible. Good Job Anet on this one, I would not be able to play this great game if it werent for your ability to make this work over 56K, then again, I would also have more freetime if it didnt work. |

For those of you still on dial-up, I feel for you. My parents still can't get cable, and the DSL service is outrageously overpriced by the local telecom. http://www.frontieronline.com/Produc...rview.aspx?p=2 Check it out if you want, its so bad they won't even MENTION the price or bandwith at said price! Regardless, 56K users should be grateful the high-end game companies even bother with you anymore. Before long all you'll be able to play is Texas Hold-em and corny Yahoo games. |

Don't know where you live but in the UK 95%+ households can get broadband, and you can easily get BB for the same or less price than dailup.

Yeah, here in merry old Blighty I'm on 2.2MB ADSL which is costing me ??14.49 per month. In April I'm getting upgraded to 8MB which comes at no extra charge.
